What Does Error Code 80029C4A Mean?

According to Intuit, error code 80029c4a is accompanied by the error message:

Error Code 80029c4a: Description Error Loading Type Library.dll

It’s caused by a damaged or incorrect version of Microsoft’s typelib.dll, normally found in the following location:

C:WindowsSystem32

To fix this error, update QuickBooks to the latest release.  To verify your version and release of QuickBooks, press F2 while QuickBooks is running to display the Product Information window.  The Product field shows the version and release at the top left of the window.  In the example below, Premier Accountant Edition 2009 is the version and R3P is the release.  To update QuickBooks, click the Help->Update QuickBooks… menu selection.

After updating QuickBooks, run reboot.bat.  Reboot.bat is a batch file supplied with QuickBooks.   For the 2009 version, it is normally found in the following location:

C:Program FilesIntuitQuickBooks 2009

Once reboot.bat has completed, restart your computer and launch QuickBooks.  If the error persists, you’ll need to perform a clean install of QuickBooks.  Once you perform a clean install of QuickBooks, be sure to update QuickBooks to the latest release.

What Does Error Code 1304 Mean?

According to Intuit, Error 1304 can occur when installing or updating QuickBooks.

It is accompanied by this message:

"Error writing to file [filename]. Verify that you have access to that directory."

It is caused by either:

  1. a damaged CD
  2. a problem with the CD drive itself
  3. a damaged Microsoft .NET component

The troubleshooting steps to resolve this error depend on whether you received the error installing QuickBooks from a CD or from a download.

If you were installing from a CD, first attempt to copy files from the installation CD to your hard disk and proceed to complete the installation.  The steps to copy these files are discussed in this Intuit knowledge base article.

If you downloaded QuickBooks and are not installing the program from a CD, a component of the Microsoft .NET framework may be damaged.  In this instance, consult this Intuit knowledge base article for information on repairing your .NET framework.

How Do I Update My Payroll Software?

To update your QuickBooks payroll software, visit the Get Payroll Updates menu selection on the Employees menu.

We recommend downloading the entire update, so be sure to select the radio button Download entire payroll update.

Click the Update button. QuickBooks will begin the update process and will show a series of Payroll Update windows similar to the one below during the update process:

When the updating process is complete, you should see a Payroll Update window confirming the updates were installed. Click Ok to see information about the update installed.

When you’ve finished reviewing the changes included with the Payroll Update, click the X in the upper right corner to close the Payroll Update News window and return to normal work.
