What Does Error Code C=224 Mean?

According to Intuit, Error Code C=224 can occur when:

  • backing up a company file (.qbw) from the File->Save Copy or Backup… menu selection
  • running the Verify Data utility from the File->Utilities->Verify Data menu selection
  • running the Rebuild Data utility from the File->Utilities->Rebuild Data menu selection

This has been resolved in the latest release of QuickBooks.  To verify your QuickBooks release, from within QuickBooks press F2 to display the Product Information window.  The Product shows both your version and release in the upper left corner.

What Is the QBWIN.LOG File and What Function Does It Serve?

The QBWin.log file is a text file that stores information about selected QuickBooks errors and the results of verifying, rebuilding, cleaning up, or upgrading, or converting a company file.

This file is created the first time you:

  • run the Verify Data utility (File->Utilities->Verify Data)
  • run the Rebuild Data utility (File->Utilities->Rebuild Data)
  • run the Clean Up Company Data utility (File->Utility->Clean Up Company Data…)
  • encounter a “C=” error
  • upgrade from a previous version of QuickBooks or Quicken

To locate or view the QBWin.log file, from within QuickBooks press F2 or Ctrl +1 to open the Product Information window.  With the Product Information window open, press F3 or Ctrl + 2 to open the Tech Help window.  With the Tech Help window open, click the Open File tab and scroll down in the file list to the QBWin.log file.  To display the full file path, click the Path On/Off or use the keyboard shortcut Alt + p button.  To view the file in your default editor for text files (normally Windows Notepad), click Open File or use the keyboard shortcut Alt + o.

What Does Error Code C=44 Mean?

According to Intuit, Error Code c=44 can occur when QuickBooks attempts to access a damaged record, such as a transaction.

To recover from this error, do the following:

  1. Verify your data (on the File->Utilities->Verify Data menu)
  2. If necessary, rebuild your data (on the File->Utilities->Rebuild Data menu)

What Does Error Code -6032, -158 Mean?

According to Intuit, Error Code -6032, -158: “An error occurred when QuickBooks tried to access the company file” is caused by an internal database error when converting a company file to a newer version of QuickBooks.

The recommended solution is to attempt to verify the QuickBooks company file (.qbw) in the earlier version of QuickBooks and to rebuild the company file using the earlier version of QuickBooks.

How Do I Verify My Company File?

QuickBooks includes a utility to verify a company file to check for damage.  Verifying a company file is a routine procedure.  To verify your company file, visit the File->Utilities->Verify Data menu selection.

File verification will proceed on its own, updating its status as shown below.  If you need to cancel the verification process, press Esc.

Under normal circumstances, the verification process will complete and not find any problems, as shown below.  Simply click Ok to return to other tasks.

In the event the verification process finds a problem, you’ll see the Warning screen shown below.  Click Close and proceed to use the Rebuild Data function to fix this problem.
